Investing in wine
1982 Bordeaux
The 1982 vintage is described as 'exceptional' throughout Bordeaux and is THE vintage of the 80s. The wines are now mature.
Investing in wine
1982 Vintage First Growth Bordeaux. Price Per Bottle in USD between June 2001 and June 2006
Prices have increased over the period, by as much as 123% in the case of Ch. Lafite (the lowest growth rate is Ch. Margaux at 58%). However, it should be noted that not all the wines have increased in value at the same rate
1990 Bordeaux
1990 was a large (one of the largest crops ever harvested in Bordeaux) and successful vintage.

1990 Vintage First Growth Bordeaux. Price Per Bottle in USD between June 2001 and June 2006
The price increases are less variable between the wines than the 1982 vintage. The biggest rise, the Ch. Haut Brion, rose by 90%. The Ch. Latour, on the other hand, shows a rise of only 41%. Note that the overall price of the wines is lower for the 1990 vintage than it is for the 1982.

2000 Bordeaux
The famous 2000 Bordeaux vintage was the most hyped en primeur campaign of all time (though 2005 could conceivably eclipse it) thanks largely to the combination of the Millennium effect and stunning wines on both the left and right banks of the Gironde. Robert Parker predicted that release prices would be high for such extraordinary, across the board quality and he was proved right as Châteaux proprietors hiked their release prices by up to double the previous vintage. When the wines spiraled in value as the various tranches emerged, numerous pundits suggested that the vintage was massively over-priced and would crash back to earth. But in spite of their doom-laden predictions that the market wouldn't bear such price levels, the vintage has subsequently defied gravity and has continued to surge in value.
Released at just under £1600 en primeur, the fabulous Margaux 2000 has nearly doubled in value in just five years, according to its latest hammer price of £2990 in early 2006.
